Alexis and Theresa began Nerds With Needles out of a shared love for fibre crafts and nerdiness. The name says it all, really. Their colourways are nerdcore-inspired, which is a theme that we nerds here at Darn Yarn get really excited about!
Alexis has been knitting for 18 years and has tried all kinds of other fibre crafts including needle felting, crocheting, and spinning. You can tell from her own words just how much she loves her work:
“Last year I thought, dyeing yarn, now THAT looks FUN! I can make the yarn to how I want it. And oh, the colours!!! And the different fibres! It’s endless!”
Theresa tried learning to knit as a child, but she didn’t get the bug until later. “It really didn’t stick until I started Weight Watchers about 10 years ago. I needed a hobby that would stop me from eating. LOL” She started knitting and never stopped. Now she knits, crochets, and has recently added a new fibre craft:
“I have also recently added weaving which is doubly amazing with custom dyed yarn!”
Check out some of her gorgeous woven creations here!
Alexis and Theresa are part of large, nerdy families and never lack for inspiration. So far, they’ve made colourways inspired by Doctor Who, Sailor Moon, Transformers, Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, My Little Pony, Batman, and She-ra, among others.
Nerds With Needles’ enthusiasm about their work with fibre arts is infectious. When we asked them what they loved most, they gave this amazing (and relatable) answer:
The colours. No, the textures… or maybe the fact that beautiful things can be made with it… or that it makes people happy? It certainly makes US happy. Do we have to pick just one?
Alexis and Theresa’s motto for this year (and beyond) is “onwards and upwards!” Look forward to new nerdy creations in their shop soon, including Nerdy Notions. We can’t wait to see what they come up with!
Thanks for bringing all things nerdy to the fibre arts world, Alexis and Theresa! We’re so glad to have your creations on DarnYarn.ca!
