What do we love just as much as working with the mind-blowing colourways that our makers create?
Having incredible bags to keep our projects in!
We’re thrilled to introduce Geneviève, the sewist behind Jasmine Custom Bags. She lives in beautiful Ottawa, ON, and her bags are out of this world.
Geneviève started cross-stitching in 2015 and loved it. However, as her stash of supplies inevitably grew, she got tired of keeping everything in XL Ziploc bags. They were effective but man…not pretty.
Geneviève’s mother is a prolific and excellent seamstress who sewed clothes for her kids when they were young. She’d given Geneviève a sewing machine (moms, amirite), but it had just been gathering dust ever since.
I wondered if I had inherited the sewing gene. So, I dusted off the sewing machine I never used, went on YouTube for some tutorials, and about 2 years later, here we are.
Geneviève loves to sew made-to-order bags for customers—taking inspiration from their interests and requests. She enjoys adding a touch of originality to every project, from a contrasting colour to a zipper pull or an unexpected kind of fabric. When she sews bags for herself (and for us) she follows the joy and creates what makes her happy.
Geneviève’s bags are beautifully constructed out of delightfully vibrant fabrics that sing together. She has a size for every project. Medium and large bags have front pockets for smaller odds and ends.
When we asked Geneviève what she loves most about her work with the fibre arts, her answer was inspiring:
I love that creativity has no bounds. If you have an idea in mind, there’s a way to achieve it. I have been challenged by good friends in sewing projects I thought I couldn’t do, and it always turned out well.
She also enjoys the meditative aspect of any kind of fibrecraft, from cross stitch to knitting to sewing. There’s a mindfulness to the activity, she says—and we agree completely.
So, what’s next for Jasmine Custom Bags? Geneviève’s enjoying the process, creating unique bags for passionate people. She loves that people trust her with their amazing ideas and have faith in her ability to create the bag of their dreams.
My end goal is always to bring a smile on the people’s faces I sew for and as long as this happens, I will continue.
